The overall score is produced by Pearson's scoring algorithm from your performance across every item, not by averaging the four skill scores. In practice it lands close to the average of the four, which is what this calculator estimates — but it is an estimate, not a reproduction of the algorithm.

Can I convert PTE raw marks to a score out of 90?

No, and any tool claiming to is guessing. PTE is scored item by item by machine, with partial credit on many task types, and Pearson does not publish a raw-to-scale table. IELTS publishes one; PTE does not.

What PTE score equals IELTS 7?

Pearson's published concordance puts IELTS 7 at about PTE 65. Note that the boards disagree: the joint IELTS partners' study places it slightly differently, and institutions check against the table belonging to the test you actually sat.

Why nobody can convert PTE raw marks by hand

This page starts from the four skill scores rather than from raw marks, and that is deliberate. PTE is machine-scored item by item, with partial credit on many task types, and Pearson does not publish a raw-to-scale table. IELTS publishes one — which is why the IELTS calculator can convert 30 correct answers into band 7 exactly. Any PTE tool claiming to do the same is guessing, and a guess about your score is worse than no number at all.

Equivalences are approximate and the boards disagree with each other — Pearson and the IELTS partners publish different numbers for the same band. An institution will check against the table belonging to the test you actually sat, so treat this as orientation, not as a promise.

What a calculator cannot tell you

Which questions you got wrong, and why. If you have already sat a few practice tests, the number that changes your preparation is not your overall — it is which task type keeps costing you marks. That takes a history to work out, so nothing that scores a single test can do it.
